How to choose gaming & cards

For accessible game records, accompany pieces with algebraic notation or plain-language labels rather than relying on symbols alone.

Unicode encodes game pieces for notation and plain-text interchange. It does not encode rules, colors, or board state beyond the character names.

A four-part check
  1. Identify the assigned Unicode label and U+ value.
  2. Select every component of the sequence.
  3. Try the result inside its intended application.
  4. State important information with words as well.

Rendering and compatibility

Chess and suit symbols are widely available. Playing Card and Mahjong blocks may use monochrome glyphs even where a colorful icon is expected.

Unicode defines character identity, while fonts and platforms draw the result. A different shape does not automatically mean a different character; an empty box usually means missing font coverage.

Sources and review boundary

Formal character names and core properties are derived from Python's Unicode database for this build, then presented against the Unicode Character Database model. Curated group labels and usage notes are editorial organization, not normative Unicode classifications.
